Heritage Brass: A history of brass quality
We’re proud to feature products from a number of top UK companies, and one of our most successful partnerships is with the renowned brass foundry Heritage Brass. The company will be celebrating its 80th anniversary in the brass foundry business, commemorating a remarkable British success story.
Where it all began
Heritage Brass has established a reputation for its premium switches and sockets. Originally founded in the East End of London in April 1940, the business began as a traditional brass foundry, producing a variety of household items and other essentials. Thanks to the team's consistent commitment to quality and customer service, Heritage Brass has continued to grow ever since.
In the 1980s, the company moved to Dudley, where it has continued to focus on producing innovative brass designs, including some of the most sought-after sockets and switches available in the UK. In fact, the company has become so successful that they have been able to create partner companies overseas. Their international partner, Ashley Norton, is delivering the renowned Heritage Brass products to a US audience, while Heritage Brass LLC is based in the UAE.
Although Heritage Brass has a proud history of producing high quality, traditional brass items, they have also been able to move with the times. In the 1980s, the company switched from the sand casting method to pressure casting, which provides greater accuracy in the brass production process.
In the following decade, as their operations continued to expand, they adopted the even more effective hot forging process. This approach to brass foundry provides increased consistency and guaranteed quality to the final product.
Utilising the latest technology
And the innovations have continued into the 21st century. Heritage has not been reluctant to embrace the latest in robot technology, employing robots to polish the finished products. This is a more efficient and effective approach to the old fashioned hand polishing method and has helped Heritage Brass to maintain a consistent standard of quality in the finish on all switches and sockets.
Heritage has continued to invest in the latest technology and manufacturing equipment for a high standard of quality control, while their commitment to green methods is exemplified by their newly designed recyclable packaging.
