What Are The Different Types of Light Switches?
One of the best things about modern interior design is that you don’t have to opt for modern-looking fixtures and fittings! The perfect illustration of this is the diverse range of light switches available to finish off your room, often using contemporary technology in traditional shapes.
Browse the incredible range of Heritage Brass switches, and you will see that there are all sorts of ways to activate and turn off room lights!
As you have a choice of different types of light switch, how they function can be as significant as their aesthetics. Not all electrical switches work the same, so which one suits your preferences and lifestyle?
To help you out, here are eight different types of light switches.
Toggle
This is one of the oldest forms of electrical switches, but it still looks great particularly for retro interior designs. It involves an often substantial lever that you flick on and off. It may well include off/on lettering to make it even simpler to use. You will see these referred to as ‘dolly switches’.
Rocker
The rocker switch is an everyday light switch with a ‘rocking’ motion. It’s the sort of pivoting on/off switch used in many homes, and it’s functional and smart. Symbols 0 and – are sometimes used to indicate power status.
Push Button
This is also a highly common type of electrical switch. It’s advantage over a toggle or rocker is that it is flush to its case, though equally simple to click off and on. They are compact and can look good when just a single button is needed.
Proximity Switches
This far more technical type of light switch offers homeowners an energy efficiency option. You can activate the light when needed and then a timer switches it off when the space around the sensor is empty or after a set period of time.
Motion Activated Switches
These are subtly different from the above and are more generally used as security lighting for porches, doorways and external areas. When the sensor detects a meaningful movement, they switch on a bright light. This can be helpful for householders moving around in the dark but is largely used as an intruder deterrent.
Dimmer Switches
This is a great option for modern homes, as it not only activates lights but also provides different settings for different moods and purposes. Heritage Brass has some attractive examples of dimmer switches, which involve a dial to pinpoint the right level of light after clicking the switch on.
Whichever types of electrical switches you find appealing, make sure you buy a quality product from Arrow Electrical to combine faultless function with attractive looks.
